She died July 19, 2000 at Poplar Living Center.
Mable was born Oct. 16, 1913 in Vernal, the daughter of Henry James and Mary Lavina (Burgess) Burton, and graduated from Uintah County High School.
She married Newell Waldo Shaffer on August 25, 1937 in Vernal. They moved to Texas in 1949 and returned to Utah in 1952. In 1954 they moved to Casper, where she was employed as housing and apartment manager for John Scott at Scott Hill Housing for 35 years until she retired in 1990.
Her interests included crocheting, knitting, ice skating, dancing and horses. Her specialty was crocheting rugs. She loved all flowers, especially roses, sego lilies and wildflowers.
She is survived by one daughter, Lou Ann Cooper, Alberton, Mont.; three sons, Alden Shaffer, Rock Springs, Wyo.; James Shaffer and Dan Shaffer, both of Casper; 12 grandchildren; and 21 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alden Shaffer; her second husband, Newell Shaffer in 1993; two brothers, Lawrence Burton and LeRoy Burton; and her parents.
