Mrs. Clara Mathis, Longtime Resident of Katy Dies.

Services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock for Clara Augusta Mathis. Rev. Kenneth Mills officiated at the service at the First Baptist Church in Katy and internment at the Mathis Cemetery in Waller. Schmidt Funeral Home directed.
Mrs. Mathis was born January 3, 1887 at Brenham, Texas. Daughter of George H. Klehm and Bertha Zobel Klehm, She married Judge J. Mathis of Waller and they moved to Katy in 1909. Preceding her in death were her husband, who died in 1947 and one son, Wiley Mathis who died October 6, 1964.
Survivors are three sons, J. D. Mathis of Baytown, J. L. (Leon) of Houston and E. J. (Elvy) of Katy; two sisters, Minnie Brennan Davis of Porter, and Sophia Engeling of Katy; and number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Mrs. Mathis lived in Katy almost 60 years having made her home for a short while with her son Wiley in Houston and living at Brookshire Arms for 2 ½ years. She passed away January 8, 1971 at the age of 84 years and 5 days.
