John Paul Barker, age 95, of Bidwell, Ohio, formerly of Hayes Crossing, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2022, at Abbyshire Nursing Center in Bidwell, Ohio.
Born November 8, 1926, in Haldeman, he was a son of the late Walter and Cosy Withrow Barker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob Barker and Troy Barker, and three sisters, Hazel Colene Potts, Virginia Faye Hinton, and Evelyn May.
His wife of nearly seventy years, Joyce Marie Holland Barker, whom he wed November 15, 1947, preceded him in death on May 30, 2017, and one daughter, Sherry June Barker.
John is survived by two sons, Donald Paul Barker and wife Patricia of Forney, Texas, and Martin John "Marty" Barker and wife Diane of Worthington; one daughter, Kimberly Ann Barker of Danville; seven grandchildren, John Cody Baker, Andrew James Barker, Kelly Elizabeth McElveen, Ashleigh Morgan Barker, Linda Kathern Pemberton, Zachary Martin Barker, and Rylend Grant; and 12 great grandchildren.
Other survivors include one brother, Ernest Barker of Muncie, Indiana; two sisters, Mildred Jean Patrick of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Wilma Irene Lewis of Morehead; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
John proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a recipient of the WW II Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal, and Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He attended Walsh College of Business in Troy, Michigan.
John was a retired CPA and moved from Hayes Crossing to Morehead after purchasing Perry's Sporting Goods. He owned and operated Barker's Guns & Knives for more than 20 years. John was a proud member of the Clearfield Baptist Church. He was an avid gun collector and enjoyed target practice and playing golf.
Funerals services will be conducted 12 noon Friday, May 6, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Lloyd Dean officiating. Burial will follow in New Sill Cemetery with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
Family will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Friday, May 6, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
