Death Date - The death date listed on this memorial is different from the Elm Grove Cemetery listing. It is based on the information found from Benjamin's death announcement. The announcement can be found in the Providence Gazette dated Feb 28, 1820 which states, "In Wickford, in the 66th year of his age, Captian Benjamin Reynolds, an honest and industrious man, and a useful citizen". If he had died in April of 1820 as listed in the Elm Grove record, it would not have been in the February 1820 paper as he would have still been alive in February of 1820. Also, Benjamins pension records show his death date as 19 Feb 1820.

According to G. Timothy Cranston, an independant historian in North Kingstown RI (www.historicnorthkingstown.com), Benjamin Reynolds was a prominent local housewright in Wickford. He and his brothers and sons built many houses in the Wickford area. Two of which his family lived in for several years. The one he built in 1804 was owned by the Reynolds family for 144 years and is still standing at 94 Main Street in Wickford. Benjamin also owned shares in two ships and was the Director of the Naragansett Bank in 1812. In his will he left shares of this bank's stock to his family members.

Through his great grandmother, Benjamin was a descendant of Charlemagne. This line is registered with the "International Society of the Descendants of Charlemagne". He is in the 32nd line of descent from Charlemagne. The line is recorded in Vol 1., pg 173 in the records of the society.

Benjamin and his father John, were also patriots in the Revolution. Their service and lineage are recorded with Daughters of the American Revolution. Benjanmin's Ancestor number is A095617 and Johns is A095795. Benjamin's wife Elizabeth applied for and received pension for his service under pension #W12833.

Benjamin's parents were John Reynolds and Anne (Utter) Green, widow of Benjamin Green, daughter of William and Ann (Stone) Utter.
