Ruth Propes Ritchie, 93, of Hickory, NC, passed away on Tuesday April 26, 2022 with her family by her side.
Ruth was born on February 4th, 1929 in Hickory to her parents Hillary and Ollie Propes. The youngest of 11 children, she was surrounded her entire life by people who loved and appreciated her. At 14, she met the love of her life, Ralph Ritchie, who she would later marry and start her family with. Some of Ruth's jobs through the years include secretary at College Park school and babysitting for many families in the Hickory area. She shared many memories with her family such as traveling the country to compete in horse shows, tending to her beautiful flower garden, baking cakes for her grandchildren's birthdays, and caring for all her little ones.
Ms. Ruth Ritchie is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, David Ritchie and wife Mary, Gary Ritchie and wife Linda; grandchildren, Suzanne Ritchie, Teresa Sutton (Keith), Amber Rickertsen (Seth), and Pamela Splain (Brennan); great grandchildren, Eric Ritchie (Samantha), Trevor Sutton, Hunter Sutton, Zachary Peavy, Emily Peavy, Anson Splain, and Ollie Splain. Ruth was also a loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews.
Ms. Ritchie is preceded in death by her parents, Hillary and Ollie Propes, husband, Ralph Ritchie of 39 years, Grandson Mark Ritchie, Great Grandson Todd Ritchie, 4 sisters, and 6 brothers.
Ms. Ritchie's funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 30th beginning at 11am with Pastor Dan Duke officiating. A reception will follow the service in the Jack Bass Memorial Building. An inurnment will be held at Catawba Memorial Park.
