He was a hardworking, strong, devoted Godly family man. Robert became a deacon around the age of 29, mentored others and taught Sunday school for many years. Robert was a member of Second Baptist Church of Baytown. God and family meant more to Robert than anything else in the world and he set this foundation for his family. All knowing Robert knew he was the most loving, wise, plus influential husband and father a family could ask for. He was a father figure to many instilling the importance of family bonds and that this bond is to remain stronger and more important than any disagreement. Furthermore, he was the first person one would go to if they needed "anything" fixed or if a solution was required for any problem.
Most of his retirement was spent as an avid craftsman always occupied in the garage on an array of projects from electronics, computer programming to woodworking. However, he had a passion for flying model airplanes and working on amateur radios. Robert was famous amongst the grandkids for building potato guns and demonstrating his Morse code skills. The grandkids called him "Poppa"!
Robert is survived by his wife Ethel, his children Ken and wife Vicki, Ann and husband Bob Fehring, David and wife Roshaun, Ron and wife Angie, his sister Debbie Heckler and grandchildren Thomas Keith (TK), Julie Chapman, Jennifer Posey, Garrett Bilnoski, Elizabeth Meagher (Liz), Makenzie Garrett, Matthew Garrett, Tyler Garrett and Shelby Sassinger along with 7 great grandchildren and countless friends. Robert was preceded in death by Howell and Annie Garrett (parents), Dorothy Garrett (sister), Robert Ray Garrett (son) and Nolan Bilnoski (grandson). The family would like to thank Dr. Terry, Trudy, and staff, Dr. Guidry, Swan Manor Assisted Living and Faith Community Hospice for caring for Robert. A special thank you to Mary Lou for all your kindness.
Robert will be deeply missed, but his presence will remain in all those who were fortunate to receive his abundant love and knowing he is in Heaven with his Savior Jesus Christ.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 am, Friday, April 29, 2022, at Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rollingbrook Drive, Baytown, TX 77521. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at 12:30 pm, at Earthman Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8624 Garth Road, Baytown, TX 77521.
