Dr. James Carroll, age 69, of Sudan, Texas, died Friday, April 22, 2022 in Lubbock, Texas. He was born June 4, 1952 in Abilene, Texas to Paul K. and Mary (Swift) Carroll. He married Barbara Ann Black in Bula, Texas on June 15, 1973.

James served as a minister in the First United Methodist Church for over 20 years. He graduated from Abilene High School and received his BA from McMurry University, and ultimately receiving his Masters degree from Drew University in Madison, New Jersey and his Doctorate at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. James loved music. He also enjoyed learning new technology and gadgets. James was well known for his quirky and fun sense of humor. He loved sharing jokes with his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul K. Carroll and Mary Carroll Fazakerly; two brothers, John Carroll and David Carroll; and a sister, Kay Carroll.

James is survived by his wife, Barbara; James Carroll Jr. and his wife, Kathleen of Ft. Worth, Texas, Michael Carroll of Sudan, Texas, Joseph Carroll of Austin, Texas, Kyle Carroll of Shirley, Arkansas, Nicholas Carroll of Lubbock, Texas, Creedence Carroll of Sudan, Texas and Adam Carroll of Sudan, Texas; his nine daughters, Jennifer Carroll and Antrice Newsome of Arlington, Texas, Rebekah Conger and her husband, Trevor of Silverdale, Washington, Sarah Thompson of Irving, Texas, Alyssa LaHue of Topeka, Kansas, Margaret Calvert and her husband, Clifford of Ft. Davis, Texas, Lisa Black and her husband, Barry of Shirley, Arkansas, Nicole Carroll of Pecos, Texas, Jessica Carroll of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Angel Carroll of Kansas City, Missouri; and his thirty-one grandchildren.
