Margaret Ruth McLaney Baker, 85, of Wilmington, N.C. formerly of Cedartown, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004. She was born July 25, 1919 in Alabama to parents Milton and Margaret Abernathy McLaney. Mrs. Baker was a Lieutenant in the United States Army serving as a nurse in World War II. Her husband, James L. Baker, precedes her in death. Survivors include her daughters, Linda Webb of Canton, Ga., Kay Ved of New Orleans, La., Janet Fortune of Germany and Nancy Doster of Wilmington, N.C.; sons, James Baker of Leland, N.C. and Leo Baker of Ellijay, Ga.; sister, Eloise Veal of Fla.; brother Milton McLaney of Covington, Ga.; and ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Swafford officiating. The interment service was held at Jackson Chapel Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Brewster Cleveland American Legion Post #86 Honor Guard. The Olin L.
