John G. Maxwell, 78, of Red Lake, MN died day, Friday, April 22, 2022 at the Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm, Thursday, April 28, 2022 at the Little Rock Community Center in Red Lake, MN. A wake will begin at 1:00pm, Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at the Little Rock Community Center in Red Lake, and will continue until the time of the service. Interment will be at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji.

John grew up in the Little Rock area and lived there the majority of his life until his health start deteriorating then moved to the Good Samaritan Home in Blackduck, MN where he lived the remainder of his years.
John had a passion for playing the guitar and played in several bands in the surrounding areas, most notably "The Renegades" along with his brother Bobby. While having arthritis, John still did not give up on playing the guitar, he adapted by laying the guitar in his lap and playing that way. John worked many years for the Red Lake Weatherization Program and Food Distribution. He was also a commercial fisherman along with his brother Ed. John had a great sense of humor, was very witty, and loved to make people laugh. John was often told he resembled Johnny Cash, thus becoming his nickname. John was a man of faith, and played Gospel music after finding the Lord. He will be fondly remembered by his family and friends. John's family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of the Good Samaritan Home in Blackduck for the kindness and care John received.
John is survived by his sisters, Ruby (Maxwell) Bratvold, Betty (Maxwell) King, June Maxwell, and Special niece Vera Goben.
John was preceded in death by his parents Bertha and Baptiste Maxwell, brothers Ed, Allen, George, Donald, and Robert Maxwell, sisters, Joanne (Maxwell) Wipf, Violet Maxwell, Melvina (Brun) Maxwell, Gladys Rogers, and Leona Stately.

Active Casketbearers will be: Darren Bratvold, Gary Lee Maxwell, Ron Brun, Lucas Bratvold, Ben Wipf, Corey Wipf, Stephen Strong, with alternate Lee Beaulieu.

Honorary Casketbearers will be: William "Billy" Branchaud, Pam Maxwell, Vera Goben, Arlie Wipf, Greg Maxwell, Arnold Maxwell Sr., Joan LaVallie, Maynard LaVallie, Lori Beth Maxwell, Rob Maxwell, Gary Jourdain Sr., and all of John's Nieces and Nephews.
