Michael Irvin Payne, 69, of South Point, OH, passed away Monday, April 25, 2022 at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, WV. He was born June 30, 1952 in Ironton, OH, son of the late Paul and Faye Payne. Michael is a graduate of Rock Hill High School, Class of 1970 and a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He worked as a machinist at National Mine and retired from Steel of WV. Michael loved watching Marshall University sports. He was the biggest softball and sports fanatic in the community. Many people knew him as "Papaw". He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kathy Ross Payne; four children, Brian (Debbie) Payne, Angie (Bobby) Black, Jill Baker and Joey Payne; four brothers, Steve Payne, Carl Payne, Bill Payne and John Payne; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Funeral service will 11:00 AM Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Wallace Family Funeral Home, South Point, OH with Pastor Paul McNurlin officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Ironton, OH. Visitation will be 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Wallace Family Funeral Home.
