LEVANT-Ray F. Bemis Sr., 65, of Levant died Saturday at a Bangor hospital after a long illness. Mr Bemis was born at Levant, January 30, 1897, the son of Leroy N and Elizabeth (Barker) Bemis.

He was a graduate of Higgins Classical Institute and a veteran of World War I. He was a past member of the Kenduskeag Lodge of Masons and a past patron of Good Samaritan Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.

He is survived by his widow Mrs. Floy M. (Williams) Bemis, one son, Ray F. Bemis Jr.; two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Higgins and Miss Sylvia Bemis; one brother, Merton N. Bemis all of Levant; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Brookings-Smith Funeral Home 133 Center Street Bangor Monday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 pm at the Levant Village Church with the Rev Theodore Perkins officiating. Interment will be in the family lot at the Waugh cemetery in Levant
