The Friday Caller (Plainfield, Hendricks County, Indiana)--issue of December 23, 1948:

"BROWNSBURG MEN MEET DEATH IN GRANDE CROSSING

Fletcher Brunes, 46 and James O. Phillips, 42, both of Brownsburg, were killed Sunday when the car driven by Phillips was struck by a Big Four passenger train on a grade crossing near Fillmore. Both were well known farmers. Phillips was a veteran of World War II. Funeral services were held for him at Mt. Tabor church Tuesday. The funeral of Mr. Brunes was held Wednesday morning at Traders Point. He is survived by the widow, four sons, three daughters, his mother, two brothers and a sister. Survivors of Mr. Phillips are two sons and two daughters, his parents, a brother and sister."
