Barbara Denniston Peterson

Barbara Peterson, 93, passed away peacefully at home in Stoneridge Creek, Pleasanton on April 9th.
Barbara grew up in Piedmont, meeting her future husband Bill in kindergarten. She attended Piedmont High where she was active in student council and other clubs. She attended the University of Oregon, where she was a member of Tri Delta Sorority, earning a degree in business. After graduation she worked for Del Monte foods.
Barbara married Bill upon his return from the Korean War and they raised their family in San Rafael where they lived for 60 years. She was an astute investor, skilled bridge player and converted Cal Bears fan. She was an elegant and gracious hostess, enjoyed an active social life and played in many different bridge groups around the Bay Area including a lovely group at Stoneridge. Barb supported her husband's successful pharmaceutical sales career, helping him to complete essential recordkeeping duties.
Barb was always active in the community and with fundraising charities, including Treasurer roles held with Northgate/Laurel House at the Marin Art & Garden Center, Marin Charitable and Hyacinth fundraising for the Lincoln Child Center in Oakland.
Known to her friends as Barb and to her family as Nana, she was a very involved mother and grandmother, attending swim meets, school activities and babysitting. She loved to travel, visiting Europe and Asia many times and enjoyed the beauty of Carmel and Lake Tahoe.
Her husband Bill predeceased her, and she is survived by her two sons and their wives, Jeffrey & Johni Peterson and Daniel & Lisa Peterson and by her three grandchildren Ryan (and fiancée Elisabeth Aydelotte), Taylor and Leah Peterson.
She will be remembered with great love. Family will be holding private services. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in her memory.
