Barbara was born in Martin County, NC on February 11, 1946. In 1963, she moved with her father to Alexandria, VA. While attending and finishing school at Thomas Edison High School, she met the love of her life, James L. Gordon. They married on August 9, 1965 and started a family in 1967. Barbara was a loving and devoted wife, a wonderful and caring mother, and a doting and generous grandmother.
Barbara enjoyed playing the piano, having family dinners (especially at holidays and special occasions), and she loved her cats. She worked as an Accounts Payable Manager at Great American Forwarders in Alexandria, VA and retired after a 30+ year career. Barbara was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, rising to become a Worthy Matron, at OES #55 in Herndon, VA.
Barbara leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband, James L. Gordon; children Karen L. Gordon (David Brookman) and James C. Gordon (Tara) all of Spotsylvania VA; adored grandchildren Joseph T. Southerland, Jr. (Dr. Elizabeth Francis) of Rockford MI, Tascha N. Southerland of Spotsylvania, Kaitlyn Lewis and Calissa Gordon both of Woodbridge VA, and Gabriella Gordon, Makayla Gordon, and James C. Gordon, Jr. all of Spotsylvania; and brother Vern L. Hardison, Jr. of Dunnellon FL; along with multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vern L. and Stella V. Hardison.
A service will be held at 12 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Quantico National Cemetery.
