Thomas Grant Age 84, a lifelong resident of Oscoda passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Mid Michigan Medical Center in West Branch, MI. He was born on September 14, 1937 in Oscoda, MI to the late George and Evelyn Grant (Decker). After graduating from Oscoda High School, he worked for Huron Hardware and later pursued his degrees in education. He earned his associate degree from Alpena Community College, his bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University and his master's degree in education from Michigan State University. Thom married the former Ruth E. Stangler on January 25, 1969 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oscoda, MI. Later that year, he began his teaching career with Oscoda Area Schools, which spanned 28 years until his retirement in 1997. Thom taught both special education and elementary education during his career, finding his passion in the classroom. Following retirement, he continued making a difference as he volunteered as state mediator for 15 years. Thom was a master gardener, and he always took pride in his manicured lawn, lush gardens and his building projects. He was very artistic and loved sharing this knowledge with others, and often taught his elementary students the art of calligraphy. Thom enjoyed working on oil paintings, calligraphy and pen and ink drawings. He enjoyed traveling and being a part of Sunrise Side Lifelong Learners Club. He especially cherished his time with his loving grandchildren. Thom is survived by his devoted wife Ruth of 53 years, his son Aaron (Courtney) Grant of Carp Lake, MI, who followed in his father's footsteps with a career in education, and his beloved grandchildren, Karly, Parker and Spencer. He is also survived by his brother Tony Grant, brother Jim (Maryanne) Grant, sister Marsha Gould and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Thom was preceded in death by his sister Beverly Ferguson, brother George Grant, brother Gerald Grant and brother Patrick Grant. He was also preceded in death by his beloved infant granddaughter Kennedy Nicole Grant. As a final showing of his love and dedication to his grandchildren, Thom passed on the 12th anniversary of Kennedy's death. Private services will be held for Thom and the interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Oscoda, MI.
