Stacey Allen Jackson

Stacey Allen Jackson, age 96 of San Antonio, TX passed away on April 21, 2022. Born on September 7, 1925 on his family farm in Mary Helen, KY, the third of seven children born to William L & Bessie LaForce Jackson.
In 1943 he was drafted into the Navy and was quickly shipped to Southampton, England where his duty as a helmsman on LST-55 positioned him to be actively involved in the most important event of WWII, the D-Day Landings in Normandy. His early experiences at Omaha Beach and in Exercise Tiger aboard LST-55 shaped his life and career.
Returning home after the end of WWII, he briefly worked in a Whiskey Distillery in TN. When he and a buddy saw ads about Japan, they thought it looked like an adventure so they enlisted in the Army. He was stationed as a Quartermaster in Yokohoma, Japan. There he met his future wife and started a family and were married on October 12, 1953. During his long military career, the young growing family traveled to numerous stations around the world, which included Japan, U.S. Army Garrison Hanau, Germany, Fort Meade, MD and White Sands Missile Range, NM.
He attended missile training school at Redstone Arsenal, AL where he learned to launch, retrieve, and study effects on tested missiles that were purposefully fired in adverse conditions. He led a team that would test and diagnose the Nike-Hawk-Ajax-Hercules guided surface to air missiles with an assignment to Germany. He was placed in charge of a KMAG (Korean Military Advisory Group) to South Korea during the Cold War where he trained Korean units on the use of these missiles. He retired from his multibranch service after 24 dedicated years.
After retirement he worked for Farah Mfg. in El Paso and Levi Strauss in San Antonio, TX. He and Sumiko enjoyed yearly Jackson family reunions, trips to visit family in Japan and travelling with their church family.
Stacey was devoted to restoring LST-325 in Mobile, AL and attending LST-55 reunions throughout the country. Many hours were spent helping his family at Vintage Pachinko satisfy his passion for working with his hands which brought him great joy. During his later years, he eagerly immersed himself in the daily activities offered at the Bob Ross Senior Center.
Stacey is predeceased by his wife Sumiko and his son Johnney, his brothers Curtis, Herman, Eugene, Roy and his sister Josephine Martin. He is survived by his children and their families; his grandchildren; his great-grandson; a sister; a sister-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors from 12 Noon to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2022 at Porter Loring Mortuary on McCullough.
