William E. "Bud" Taylor Sr., 80, of Amarillo died Tuesday, May 4, 2004.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Washington Avenue Christian Church with the Rev. Jim Shelburne, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery with military rites by DAV Chapter 26. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mr. Taylor was born Oct. 10, 1923, in Grandfield, Okla., to John and Ida Taylor. He enlisted in the Army in 1941, where he served in the European Theater of Operations and was involved in the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. He was later called back in 1950 during the Korean conflict. He helped train troops at Fort Hood and was transferred to Fort Gordon, Ga., where he was food service supervisor before being discharged with the rank of staff sergeant. He had last worked as a salesman for Whites Auto and Heath's Furniture before retiring.

Mr. Taylor had served as president of Faith City Mission and as a Kiwanis Club president. He helped start Kids Inc. in Canyon. He also delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. He was very involved in hospital ministry and was honorary chaplain for the 291st combat engineers. He had been a member of Washington Avenue Christian Church for more than 50 years, where he served on the board many times.

He spent his entire life always serving others. He married Flora Lee Sinks in 1946 in Electra.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, William E. Taylor Jr. and wife, Janet, of Midland, and Mickey Taylor and wife, Diane, of Claude; a daughter, Jill Reece and husband, Larry, of Amarillo; a brother, Curt Taylor of Del City, Okla.; a sister, Agnes Wilson of Oklahoma City; 11 grandchildren, DeeDee Evans, Tyra Starnes, Brian Taylor, Lauren Taylor, Shoni Sills, P.J. Taylor, Breeze Hurly, Aspen Taylor, Joy Taylor, Destini Sever and Jenna Reece; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Washington Avenue Christian Church building fund, 3800 S. Washington St., Amarillo, TX 79110; or BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79176.
