Sharon Kay Miller, age 79, of Albia, IA, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022, at Oakwood Specialty Care in Albia.

Sharon was born on February 25, 1943, at the hospital in Newton, IA, to Cloyd and Garnet (Pinkerton) Ford. Sharon grew up attending school and graduated from the Albia High School. She later obtained her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate. On August 25, 1963, she was united in marriage to Dean Miller in Newton and they were blessed with 5 children, Jeff, Shelley, Mary Beth, Robert, and Tim. Sharon and Dean shared 58 years of marriage prior to her passing.

Sharon worked at the County Home in Newton for 15 years and was also a telemarketer for the Disabled American Veterans Organization (DAV).

Sharon was a member of the Albia Baptist Temple and the Red Hat Society. Sharon was very talented and enjoyed crafts, especially painting ceramics and crocheting. She enjoyed being outdoors, camping, and campfires. She was always up for going to auctions and collected oil lamps. She was a very caring and generous person who loved to tell stories and spend time with her family and friends. Sharon was a skilled cook and excellent baker, known for her chicken and noodles, swiss steak, lemonade, chocolate chip cookies, and flaky pie crusts. Sharon also loved popcorn and made it all different ways from the stove top to popping it over an open fire. The holidays and making holiday candy with her family were some of her favorite times of the year.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Dean; 4 children, Jeff (Loretta) Miller, Shelley (Daniel) Johnson, Robert (Tresa) Miller, and Tim (Lindsey) Miller; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a sister, Violet Rouse. Sharon is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.

Sharon was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Beth, in infancy; her parents, Cloyd and Garnet Ford; and 2 sisters, Eunice Freaker and Evelyn Osborne.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2022, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Sharon's family present from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. to greet family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Chris Harris officiating. Burial will follow services at Service Chapel Cemetery in Albia.

An open memorial has been established to the family.
