Martha Anne Bowman, former teacher in the Manchester Community School system, died Monday, May 24, 2021, as a result of a fall earlier in her home in Chester Township. She was born April 2, 1938, to Morgan and Nora June (Blough) Yoder in Somerset County, PA.
She attended Conemaugh High School and began her college work at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburgh, Va. Martha married Robert C. Bowman in July 24, 1960, and their children are Christopher (Sherry Clark), Jonathan (Joyce Waggoner), Mary Elizabeth "Molly" (Kenneth Greene), and Joseph-Daniel "Jd" (Rebecca Dilley). They have 11 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Martha joined her husband as the pastor's wife in Easton Maryland, Pleasant Valley and Barren Ridge in Augusta County, Virginia, and Ephrata Pennsylvania. She worked in education at the Waka School in Nigeria. After their children were grown, she completed her college education at Bridgewater College in Virginia in 1993 and soon after began teaching in North Manchester.
Martha was a member and faithful supporter of the Manchester Church of the Brethren. Remembered for her vivacious spirit and open-hearted love of life and of her students, she left her mark on all who knew her.
