Deanna Lynn "Dene" Carter, age 71, life-long community member of Sterling, Colorado, passed away after her battle with cancer on Sat., Oct. 15, 2016. Viewing will be Friday, Oct. 21, from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. with family receiving friends from 4 -6 p.m. at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services for Dene will be at 2 p.m. Sat., Oct. 22 at Christ United Methodist Church where she was a 50+ year member. Services will conclude at the church.

Dene was born in Sterling, CO, on June 14, 1945 to Cliff and Elsie (Close) Thompson. She is a 1963 graduate of Sterling High School and received her Associates degree at Northeastern Junior College before transferring to University of Northern Colorado where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. She married Gordon A. Carter on April 5, 1967 in Sterling, CO.

She was a part-time dance instructor at Northeastern Junior College since 1967 and served as the Senior Services Coordinator and Long-Term Care Ombudsman for Logan County for 21 years. Dene also started a community line-dance group called "Boots in Motion" which performed in local and regional festivals, fairs, and retirement centers. They competed in the Colorado Senior Games in Greeley and Grand Junction where they won many gold and silver medals.

Dene enjoyed volunteering as a Silver Sneakers exercise instructor. She also spent time with her Red Hat Society group at various social activities and events.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law, Lloyd Carter, sister-in-law, Roberta Hradecky and one niece.
She is survived by her husband Gordon, son Tim of Wichita, KS, and daughter Tammy Carter of Lakewood, CO., sister Robin Davis, sister-in-law Gwen Hampton and husband Fred, brother-in-law George Carter and partner Michael, brother-in-law John Hradecky, and four nieces and six nephews.
