ANDREA TOMLINSON OBITUARY
After a courageous battle with breast cancer, which never conquered her spirit, Andrea Leigh Tomlinson passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, surrounded by her family and friends, all of whom loved her.
Service: At Leigh's request, there will be no services.
Memorials: For those who wish to honor Leigh's memory, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice or to Operation Kindness, 3201 Earhart Drive, Carrollton, Texas 75006; or Planet Cancer, 314 E. Highland Mall Blvd., Suite 306, Austin, Texas 78752.
Born in Fort Worth in 1961, Leigh graduated from Fort Worth Country Day School and Texas Christian University. She was a beautiful, vivacious, creative, and talented person, blessed with many gifts. Beginning in high school and continuing through the onset of her illness, Leigh performed as a jazz singer and an actress. Twice, Leigh was a featured vocalist at the Sammons Jazz Concert Series at the Sammons Center in Dallas, for which she also enthusiastically volunteered. In addition, she was a gifted theatrical writer, with a special flair for comedy. Her wit was so quick and so sharp that she could have brought Dorothy Parker to tears. Most recently, Leigh co-wrote, co-directed, and co-starred in the MAC's long-running musical comedy, "Porn for Puritans," a humorous look at contemporary relationships.
Leigh loved her family, her many friends, and all animals, especially her dogs. A former flight attendant for American Airlines, she was an adventurous, free-spirited world traveler who enjoyed hiking in the Himalayas much as combing the markets in Marrakesh or sipping pinot grigio on a Tuscan hilltop. Leigh was a generous community servant, giving freely of her talents to benefit the Make-a-Wish Foundation, KERA 90.1 and La Reunion TX.
Leigh was predeceased by her grandparents; her stepfather, Homer Tomlinson Jr.; and her loving friend, Scott Barber.
Survivors: Her mother, Sandy Tomlinson; her father, Dr. Paul Saperstein; her brother, Stephen Alton and his wife, Judy, all of Fort Worth; her brother, George Saperstein of Bangkok, Thailand; her stepsister, Edith Yentis of Fort Worth; her stepsister, Diane Tomlinson of New York City; her aunt, Sara Rashti of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; her aunt and uncle, Ruth and Sandford Levy of Morristown, N.J.; many cousins; her former husband and cherished friend, John Wandel of Corpus Christi; and a world of beloved friends.
