She was the second of five children of Mary Burns Rogers and John Addison Rogers. She attended Our Lady of Sorrows High School in Farmington, MI, and graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. While raising her family, she worked part-time as an educator and librarian. After moving to Atlanta, she worked as an administrative professional with GTE, St. Joseph's Hospital, and the American Cancer Society. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church (IHM) in Atlanta, and volunteered with the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Surviving are her two children, Matthew Grabenstein (Kristen) and Nora Guenault; grandchildren, Lucille and James Grabenstein, and Claire Guenault; and four siblings, Kathleen Rogers, Delia Laux (Thomas), John Addison Rogers (Sheila), and Thomas Rogers.
