William O. Lee passed away on April 21, 2022. he is survived by his wife, Ruth Lee and four children. Born in 1930, he was 91 years old.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, Roland and Aleene Lee and a brother, Jack Lee, sister Linda Petersen and his in-laws Frank and Willie Mae Miller.

A native of Pembroke, Bill graduated from Bryan County High School and later from Georgia Military College. Following a quarter at the Univ. of Georgia, he joined the Air Force. In his early years in the Air Force, he worked in the facility at Albuquerque, NM, where they built the atomic bombs. He later was accepted in flight training and after completion of the training he was posted to Elmendorf AFB at Anchorage, Alaska. There he was assigned to north American early warning system, flying intercept on unauthorized planes entering the air space.

Upon leaving the AF, he, with his family, came to Springfield, purchasing the local newspaper. Running the small town paper turned him into a jack of trades at the newspaper, typesetting, running the press, writing news and selling advertising. In the late sixties he sold the newspaper and began his career in the logging industry. The company he started, Bill Lee Logging and later LeeWay Ltd.

His family was important to him, and he took a delight in his grand and great grandchildren.

He has been a member of the First Baptist Church of Springfield since moving to the community in 1957 and active in the activities of the church.

He was proud of his military service and especially his role as a jet pilot.

He is survived by besides his wife, Ruth, Bill is survived by four children: Frank (Joan) Lee of Springfield, Susan Lee serving as a missionary in Guatemala, Carol (Jim) Garner of Athens, Mark (Donna) Lee of Pooler. Five grandchildren: Ali (Ron) Graham, Justin (Apryl) Lee, Abby Lee, all of Springfield; Brandi (Josh) Cavender of Atlanta, Anna Lee Garner of Valdosta; six great grandchildren: Logan, Walker and Harper Graham, Ryan and Jack Lee, Creek Durden. He is survived by a sister, June Waslaskis (Ray) of Chicago; brother, Gerald (Betsy) Lee of Brunswick; and Terry Lee of Hardeeville, SC.

Special friends and caregivers: Mamie Clark and Jane Smith.
Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, April 24, 2022 at Springfield Baptist Church, with visitation at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, Bill, and Ruth along with family request that contributions be made to the fund for relief and restoration of the recent tornado damage in their hometown of Pembroke. Donations can be made to "The Bryan County Family Connection", please indicate "Bryan County Tornado Relief" in memo line and mailed to Bryan County Family Connection, P.O.
