He was the son of the late Donald F. Kennedy, Sr. (Ret. Sgt. PPD, Chief Burrillville PD) and the late Joan M. (Riggs) Kennedy.
Donald served with the Rhode Island State Police for 24 years, retiring as Captain.
After his retirement he joined NESPIN as Deputy Director, ultimately rising to lead the organization as Director.
He was the devoted father of Joshua Kennedy (Sgt. WWPD) (Christine), Phillip Kennedy (Firefighter NPFD) (Heather), Nathaniel Kennedy, Esq. (Jessica), Wesley Pellettieri and Dawn Bouvier (Jamie). He was the brother of Paul Kennedy (Ret. Deputy Police Chief PPD) (Ana), Edward Kennedy, Lt. PFD, the late Robert Kennedy and Kevin Kennedy. He also leaves his 8 grandchildren and his beloved dog, Cooper.
His funeral was held Saturday, April 23, 2022 from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Avenue, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Church, 350 Fair Street, Warwick.
