Obituary - Gaston, NC

Mr. Ricky Lamar Douglas, Jr., 30, of Gaston, North Carolina transitioned on March 28, 2022

Green is such a beautiful color and often the hardest color for a leaf to keep. It takes a lot of water and sunlight for that color to stay. But with summer comes fall and winter. Remember as we try to keep our loved ones near that there is only so much we can do. From birth, a parent tries to water and provide all the sun they can to help their child grow. But, we can't control the wind that may uproot that plant or the sun that may shine too bright and fry it's leaves.

After a child has bloomed into a beautiful adult it is difficult to let them go into the world. Sometimes nature is not so kind, but as we all know God has other plans. You can't be that helicopter parent. Just like that sun that may nourish the flower you, the parent, can also be the thing that fries the leaves of the plant. So, nourish that green leaf as much as you can, but allow them to bloom into adults and let them live. For the fear of the wind uprooting the plant is only causing you to shine like that bright sun. Too much sun can also be their downfall as well.

This green leaf went by so many names. The one he hated the most is the one that we loved to call him…Jimbob. As he got older, he bloomed into the person that loved to call himself Ricky Champion. His name was Ricky Lamar Douglas Jr. and he was born in Halifax County, North Carolina, but raised a majority of his life in Gaston, North Carolina. His birthday was March 2, 1992 and he graduated from Northampton County High School-West in 2010. Only twenty-six days past his 30th year in this world, he was robbed of his life. It was March 28, 2022 to be exact. He was a leaf that liked to blow with the wind. No branches to hold him down when the wind would blow. He did not marry and did not have any known children that he would leave behind. However, he is survived by many that love him.

He will be missed dearly by his parents, his mother: Tawanda Arrington (Amos Storey) of Gaston NC and father: Ricky Lamar Douglas (Ruby Aniag) of San Antonio, TX; siblings: De'Andrea Willis (Jemun Jones) of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Shaniya Storey of Gaston NC and Malasia Douglas of San Antonio, TX; his nieces: Malonie Jones of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Malayah Jones of Roanoke Rapids, NC; his cousins were raised as his siblings: Kendrell Edwards of Gaston, NC, Elijah Edwards of Greensboro, NC and Vernell Edwards III of Gaston, NC; his grandparents: Sandra Arrington Powell (Clyde) of East Orange, NJ, Clayton Bowser of Trenton, NJ and Sherman Boone (Roslyn) of Garysburg, NC; his aunts and uncles: Walia Bobbitt (Cameron) of Concord, NC, Candra Arrington of Gaston, NC, Matris Robinson of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Marquette Sykes of Raleigh, NC, Sandra Powell Douglas of Louisville, KY, Marquita Douglas of Elizabeth City, NC, Donnie Douglas (Sharonda) of Elizabeth City, NC and Tiffany Robinson (James) of Garysburg, NC. Amongst them is the eldest, his great-grandmother: Leathel Arrington of Gaston, NC and Mary Wyche Boone of Garysburg, NC; great-aunts and uncles: Shielda Arrington (Sam High) of Gaston, NC, James Arrington (Sylvia) of Gaston, NC, Robert Lee Arrington of Gaston, NC, Louise Epps (Arthur) of Garysburg, NC, Joyce Boone (Henry) of Louisville, KY, Ray Douglas (Maybelle) of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Robert Charles Douglas of Raleigh, NC, Cleveland Boone of Seaboard, NC, Rev. Carl Boone (Valerie), Mary Patterson (Aubrey) of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Laura Rivers (Clyde) of Halifax, NC and Joseph Douglas of Roanoke Rapids, NC. There are many more family members that miss and love him.

Special dedication to those preceding him in death. You are truly missed and loved.

Ricky's first hue was green and it is his goldest quality. FAMILY. He often pretended like he did not care, but that was just his personality. Quiet, yet he was ready to give you a mouth full whenever he disagreed with how someone treated his family. He always had a warm fist waiting for them too. People have said that he would never hurt a fly. While he would never kill a fly, he would also never allow a fly to land on his food. He also loved fishing. He enjoyed fishing ever since he was a child. This hobby followed him into adulthood. Ricky's love was also shown when he was around the smaller members of his family. He couldn't help giving all the babies and kids hugs and money. Whenever you would see someone with a red hat and a black flight jacket we all knew that was Ricky. It will be hard seeing someone with a red hat and a flight jacket without thinking of him.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday April 9, 2022 at Northampton County West High School, 152 Hurricane Drive, Gaston, NC beginning at 12:00 noon. The Interment will take place immediately after the service at Butcher's Family Cemetery, Hwy 46 Butcher's Lane, Gaston, NC.

These professional services have been entrusted to H.D. Pope Funeral Home,520 Smith Church Road Roanoke Rapids, NC.
