TEXARKANA, Texas — Friends and family of Jennifer Rose Garrett have organized a candlelight vigil in her memory to be held Tuesday, Aug. 24.

The candlelight vigil will start at 7:45 p.m. at the pavilion behind Heritage Church, 5801 N. Kings Highway. It will be held in Garrett's honor and in solidarity against domestic violence, according to a flyer describing the event.

Texarkana, Texas, police discovered the body of Garrett, 29, when they conducted a welfare check at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at her home. Her boyfriend Travis Turner, 27, was arrested on a murder charge with bail set at $3 million, according to previous Gazette reports.

"We ask that everyone show up to honor her and stand in solidity against domestic violence," said Garrett's friend Trystin Reed in a message. She said family and friends "are suffering the loss of the most beautiful soul."

The event is open to anyone who knew Garrett and to the Texarkana community.

"To know Jennifer Garrett was to simply and fully love her," Reed said, adding that family members are "shaken to the core" at her passing.

Garrett was an honors students when she attended Texas A and M University-Texarkana and Texas High School. She was also a head peer mentor and freshman orientation leader at the university, according to a 2011 Gazette photo. While at Texas High, she served on a Texas High Student Council team in 2010 that was collectively tapped for prestigious, statewide leadership honors as Texas Student Council president.
