Edward E. Agans

Edward Everett Agans, son of John and Hester Little Agans, was born on a farm near Murray, Iowa, Sept. 30, 1884 and died in Albia Dec. 10, 1957 at the age of 73 years, two months and 10 days.

He attended school at Murray and was a rural mail carrier, railway mail clerk and farmer before becoming Clarke county agricultural extension director for 11 years.

Mr. Agans established residence at Lovilia in 1936 when he entered the coal business. He served as president of the Lovilia board of education and as mayor.

He helped organize the Chariton Valley Electric Co-operative, Inc., to provide electricity for farms in Monroe and other counties of this area, and became its first manager - a position he held at the time of his death.

After moving to Albia from Lovillia he served as president of the Chamber of Commerce, president of the Rotary Club and as a member of the War Rationing Board.

Mr. Agans married Kitty Morgan at Murray in 1909. They became the parents of two children, Everett Agans of Albia and Pauline who died in infancy. Mrs Agans died in 1925. His marriage to Esther Cellman of Osceola took place Feb. 23, 1929.

In addition to his wife and son he is survived by three brothers, John Agans of Derby, William Agans of Murray and Charles Agans of Albia and a grand daughter, Carol Agans of Albia.

Funeral Services, conducted by the Rev. Lester C. McDonald, pastor, and Dr. G. S. Bruland of Grinnell were at First Methodist church in Albia, Dec. 12. Burial was in Oak View Cemetery.
