Joseph Davis, age 96, of Clanton, passed away April 19, 2022.


Interment will follow at Chestnut Creek Cemetery.

 

He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn Thomas and her husband Dr. Charles Thomas of Auburn, his son Jerry Allen Davis of Clanton, his grandchildren Dr. Eleanor Thomas and her husband Andreas Hadji of Atlanta, Georgia, Mary Thomas and her husband Michael Adams of Fort Worth, Texas, Allen Davis and his wife Dr. Margaret Adjent of Nashville, Tennessee, great grandchildren Alexander Hadji, George Hadji, Greta Davis, and Ford Davis. 


He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Driver Davis, his mother Zeddie Wilson Davis, his father Andrew Thurmon Davis, sister Myrtle Smith, brothers Alvin Davis, Lonza Davis, and Sam Davis, and daughter-in-law Sharon Dinning Davis. 


Mr. Davis was born November 9, 1925, in Chilton County. 


He served his country in the United States Merchant Marine in the Panama Canal Zone during World War II, and upon returning home, worked for Alabama Power Company until his retirement in 1987. 


He was devoted to his church, having been ordained as a deacon at Chestnut Creek Baptist Church September 16, 1962. He and Dorothy were faithful members of churches in Demopolis, Northport, Wetumpka, and finally West End Baptist Church in Clanton. 


The family wishes to acknowledge the many kindnesses shown to Mr. Davis during his last years by the nurses and staff of Southern Care Hospice, as well as devoted caregivers Deidra Worthy, Juanjetta Kine, Racheal Walker, Janice Perkins, Tasha Worthy, Yvette Ford, Jo Ann Wilson, and Nikki Cleckler.
