Mr. John Melvin "Mel" Christian, 29, of Sanford passed away Saturday, April 16, 2022 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. He was born in Lee County, the son of the late John Alvin Christian and Diane Morrison. In addition to his father, Mel was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Annie Jane Morrison and nephew, Bentley Patton.

Mel was a well-known automobile mechanic in the area. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and everything outdoors. He loved spending time with family and friends.

Mel is survived by his mother, Diane Morrison of the home; 2 brothers, James Morrison of Cameron, Jason Haire and wife Katelyn of Spring Lake; 2 sisters, Ann Milton of Lillington, Heather Patton and husband Carl of Cameron; nieces and nephews, Brooke Morrison, C.T. Milton, Waylon Patton, and Carlee Patton; paternal grandparents, Norman and Iva Christian of Lillington; many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 PM Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home in Lillington. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM at Cool Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery in Broadway with Rev. Ramon Atkins officiating.
