Gary was born in Tracy, MN on May 4, 1938 to William and Polly (Nybo) Ross. He spent his younger years growing up in Tracy, Milbank, SD and Colman, SD. On April 2, 1955, Gary married Annabelle Schleisman and to this union, seven children were born. In 1975, Gary branched off from his father's business, and started Ross Management in Chehalis, WA, where he continued recycling equipment for power companies. It was there he met Sally Domstad, whom he married in 1980, and two more children joined the family. In 1992, Gary and Sally moved to Baker, MT and continued owning and operating his business. For more than 50 years, Gary travelled all over the states driving truck. To him, life was all about the journey, not the destination. In 2012, after Gary's retirement, he and Sally moved back to Colman. Gary was a big fan of racing and enjoyed not only watching, but also sponsoring cars and helping in the pit. He loved gambling at the casino, camping in their motorhome, and hosting family gatherings. He will be remembered for his quiet demeanor, yet quick-wit—a combination making for great comedic timing and hilarious one-liners. Gary was always concerned about the wellbeing of others and would like to remind all those that he loved to "watch your step".
Gary is survived by his wife, Sally Ross, Colman; 8 children: Karen Wickey (Mike Tritsch), Omaha, NE; Bob (Terri) Ross, Chehalis, WA; Larry (Kim) Ross, Surprise, AZ; Tom (Elaine) Ross, Olympia, WA; Lisa (Bob) Sharp, Pleasant Prairie, WI; Curt (Marge) Ross, Colman; Connie (Chico) Branch, Panama City, FL; and Dan Ross, Chehalis, WA; 18 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Gary is also survived by three siblings: Ken (Jan) Ross, Colman; Lucy Wendell, Egan, SD; and Sharon Jaacks, Colman. Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Matthew (1999); three grandchildren: Tom Ross (Larry), Kalynn Stalker, and David Stalker; a son-in-law, Jim Wickey; and five siblings: Betty, Jim, Dick, John, and Ronnie.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Monday, November 22, 2021 at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Colman with a visitation starting at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at the Colman Cemetery.
