Thomas B. Hale, 67, of Halifax, passed away on Sunday January 3, 2021 at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital.
Born June 17, 1953, in Harrisburg, he was a son of the late Robert G. and Helen E. (Lawrence) Hale. A graduate of Halifax High School, he became a life member of the Alumni Association. Tom later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Juniata College and served in the U.S. Marine Corps prior to his Honorable Discharge. On May 16, 2002, he was united in marriage with Ann L.N. (Novinger) Hale with whom he has spent a loving union of 18 years.
Tom retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of General Services, as a Supervisor after nearly 15 years. Prior to working for the Commonwealth, he had been employed as an Analytic Chemist at both Fort Drum in Watertown, NY and the New Cumberland Army Depot. Whether working or at home, Tom was always active and constantly on the go. He was an Amateur Radio Operator, using the call sign WU3X, and was a member of the Harrisburg Amateur Radio Club. Tom reveled in the outdoors – whether working in his garden to grow the best blueberries and blackberries that were used for pies, jams and breakfast cereals or hiking the trails of the Appalachians and state parks. A member of Valleys Evangelical Covenant Church, Halifax, he was also a devoted volunteer for the Halifax Area Meals on Wheels Program and a dedicated Bingo Caller at the Halifax Senior Center.
In addition to his wife, Pappy Tom is survived by his stepsons, Terry (Erin) Snyder, Jr., of Mt. Holly Springs and Andrew (Barb) Snyder, Halifax and six grandchildren, Alaina, Alan, Brynleigh, Daniel, Samuel and Eli, who were a constant joy in his life. Tom is also survived by two brothers, Jake (Sandy) Hale and William Hale, both of Halifax. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Hale and two sisters, Marijoy Miller and Cindy Houser.
