Jesse was born in Sweetwater, Texas. The place he learned to play football.
The gift of life was given to him on November 21, 1944 by his hard working parents, Buford Estes Patterson and Johnnie Marie Barnes. On Sunday, March 13, 2022 his earthly life was fulfilled and the Lord called him home.
Growing up excelled in baseball, the youngest All-Star player, track qualified for State, and football. He was awarded a full scholarship to Sul Ross University Alpine, Texas for football and track. Sul Ross inducted him into their Hall of Fame for football.
He had a 21-year career with Dun and Bradstreet. Jesse advanced from sales, to management, to headquarters in Manhattan. Listing a few of the positions he held, Regional Manager for the New England states, over building trades for Manhattan, Head of Sales training for the United States and Canada.
We met, fell in love, and a year later, October 15, 1982, Jesse Patterson married Dina Kay Daniel in Cut and Shoot, Texas. Think about it, who would not want Cut and Shoot on their marriage license.
Jesse had a strong belief that everyone should know how to work. He would set up family work projects and create contests to see who could be the fastest and the best. If he did not have anyone to compete against, he would time himself and see if he could beat himself. All the grandchildren, nephews, nieces, greats, and family friends that stayed at the farm worked with him. You all fished, yo-yoed, and had great water gun fights. He loved you all.
The farm, All Creatures Small Farm, is a miniature Mediterranean donkey farm that is still going strong after 33 years.
Here are a few things to remember about Jesse. He would not abide bullying. Fortunately he lived in a time when you could take up for people. Visiting home as a grown man, people would look him up and say, "Thanks for stopping them continually beating up my son" or "Thanks for stopping them making fun of our family car."
At 14 he drove to Mexico with some friends. Everyone had a license at 14. He got a tattoo. A simply printed Jesse at the very top of his arm. The logic being no one will see it, unless he was swimming.
Jesse had clairvoyancy with numbers. When he wanted, he could see numbers in your thoughts.
At times, the kids called him Fortune Cookie Man. He believed that his advice should be repeated very, very often.
He was an avid reader, with a passion for American Indian history. All his life he collected arrowheads.
Jesse is survived by his wife, Kay Daniel Patterson; son, Scott Patterson and wife Jennifer, and children Jake, Sam, Abby, Ava, and Matthew; daughter, Stacy Patterson and husband Ross Landry; brother, Buford Patterson; dogs, Willie and Dandy; and many nephews, nieces, greats, great-greats, and loads of friends.
Jesse was preceded in death by sisters Joan Alston and Patsy Davis.
