Robert Lawrence Newman, age 65 of Hale, Michigan passed away on April 16, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 8, 1957 in West Branch, Michigan to the late Roy and Laura (Dunn) Newman. Robert married the love of his life, Betty Sue (McGillis) on May 12, 1979 and they had more than 43 wonderful years together. Over the course of his adult life Robert was employed Avarm Farms for 15 years, Kennedy Solutions for 20 years and Finish Concrete for the last few years before retiring. Robert was a natural born tradesman who was skilled in welding, construction, and stenciling and lettering on race cars and signs. He was particularly gifted at using reclaimed barnwood to make crafts, picture frames, furniture, pedestals, and as an interior wall finish in homes. Robert was always on the go, especially in his younger years behind the wheel of his race car that he raced on local tracks. But most importantly, and second to the love for his family, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his daughter Kristy. Robert is survived by his wife Betty; daughter, Kristy (Billy Clark) Newman; grand daughter Ivy Maria Clark; sisters, Joann (Lyle) Baldwin, Carolyn (Walter) Kisiel, Patricia Aldrich, Geraldine Newman; brother, Ronald Newman; special brother-in-law, who he always went hunting, fishing, and shared hobbies with, Jerry Colvin; lifelong special friend, Michael Kennedy and special friend Mark Lashuay, and many nieces and nephews. Robert is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Charles Newman and Roy Newman. A memorial service will be held on Saturday April 30th at the Hale Baptist Church.
