Mary Thelma Millsaps Gray went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, April 17, 2022. After nearly two years apart, she was reunited with her beloved husband, Barkley, on Easter Sunday. Mary was born July 31, 1938, to Jim and Birdie Brown Millsaps in Monroe County, Tennessee. She grew up in the Mount Zion area of Vonore, Tennessee. Mary loved learning and made a home for her husband and two daughters, Janie and Joan filled with books and music. A graduate of Vonore High School, Mary attended Hiwassee College. She married Barkley Gray in 1960. The family lived in Chicago, Illinois for a short time before returning home to Vonore to raise a family on their small farm. Mary retired from TVA's accounting department and spent her retirement years enjoying her home and grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Barkley Gray, Jr,; her parents and infant siblings, Leonard and Linda; brothers, Fred (Dorothy), and John (Mary Lou); sisters, Gina (Elmer) Cooper and Nellie (Clifford) Cooper; and son-in-law, David McFall. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Janie and Dave Evans, Joan McFall; granddaughter, Erin (Michael) Mills; grandson, Tyler McFall (Shelby); step-grandson, Nic Evans; step-granddaughter, Ashley Teffeteller; great-grandsons, Isaac and Tanner Mills; brothers, Jack Millsaps (Mary Lynn), Tommy Millsaps (Kathy), Jerry Millsaps (Joyce); sisters, Bess (Darrell) Cathcart, Carolyn (James) Bivens, Joyce (Raymond) White; sisters-in law, Joyce (Dick) Butler and Becky (Troy) Butler; and brother-in-law, Raymond (Sue) Gray; several nieces and nephews. The family thanks the 4th floor nurses and doctors of Park West Hospital and the memory care unit at The Neighborhood at Tellico Village for the kindness and compassion shown to the family and wishes to extend a very special thank you to family friend, Mary Roberts. A graveside service will be held at Big Toqua Cemetery on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 2:00 PM. The Reverend Tommy Self will be officiating.
