Thomas J. Giersa, whose death was mentioned in Tuesday's Tribune, was born in Franklin County, January 18, 1847, and died at his home in Villa Ridge, March 26, at the age of 81 years, 2 months and 8 days. His remains were laid to rest Wednesday afternoon in the family cemetery about five miles east of Washington. Mr. Giersa is survived by two children, Miss Minerva Giersa of Villa Ridge and Mrs. A.J. Wilkins of Washington, other relatives and many friends. Mr. Giersa for many years following farming, and some twenty years ago he retired from the farm and has made Villa Ridge his home ever since. In Villa Ridge, he was engaged in several local enterprises for some years. During all his years, Mr. Giersa was a consistent good roads booster and was well informed on the art of road building. There never was a meeting in the county that had under consideration better roads for the county but what Mr. Giersa was a leader in the advancing of ideas for better roads. He always looked to the best interests of the welfare of the state, the county and the community. It may be truly said of Mr. Geirsa that he was a good man, a man who had at heart the welfare of all with whom he came in contact. The funeral services were conducted from the Christian Church of Villa Ridge by Rev. P. Lord of Kirkwood, Missouri.
