Mary Wilodene "Willie" Nelson January 12, 1945 - April 15, 2022

(Mary) Wilodene Nelson, Lansing, passed from this life peacefully, with her loved ones at her side, to live with Jesus, on Friday, April 15, 2022, at the age of 77.
She was born January 12, 1945 to Alvin and Glenden (Pritt) Paugh in Clarksburg, West Virginia.
Wilodene graduated Valedictorian from Lost Creek High School in West Virginia, class of 1962, as well as being the class president.
She then went on to pay her own way through college, and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from Alderson Broaddus University in Philippi, West Virginia, class of 1966.
Upon graduation from college, she moved to Michigan and married her husband of 40 years, Douglas Nelson.
She worked as a Registered Nurse for the next 35 years; 25 at Ingham Regional Medical Center, then for the American Red Cross for another ten years before she retired.

She was a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church in Lansing for over 40 years, during which time she was very active as a member of the choir, Sunday school teacher, Director of the Sparks program, Missionary Treasurer, Nursery worker, and volunteer cook for Camp Michael.

In her later years she spent much time crafting homemade cards for the people of her church, as well as her family.
She also enjoyed reading, sewing, and playing the Autoharp and Mountain Dulcimer.
She loved her family fiercely.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Douglas Nelson; sister-in-law, Jan Nelson, niece Carrie Nelson Oatley as well as her parents.
Surviving is her daughter, Michelle (Ron) Kuzma; her son, Russell Nelson; her two grandchildren, who were the light of her life, Katie Kuzma and Danny Kuzma; her sisters, Ruth (Paul) Semerad, Ava (Jim) Metheny, June (Al) Keene; her brothers, Jim (Norma) Paugh, Roscoe Paugh, Lonnie (Karen) Paugh; her brother-in-law, Nick Nelson as well as many nieces and nephews, and her two very spoiled but very loved cats, Noelle and Simon.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Skinner Funeral Home Lansing Chapel with interment to follow to Bellevue Cemetery.

Family will receive friends for visitation on Friday from 1-3pm & 6-8pm and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to a scholarship fund that will be instituted in memory of Wilodene, for young women seeking a Bachelor's degree in a Health-related science, STEM science, Education degree, or Business degree, at an accredited university or college.
