P. W. O'Brien, Retired Arlie Pioneer, Dies
P.W. (Pete) O'Brien, retired Arlie farmer who lived almost an entire lifetime in that community, died in the Hollis Hospital at 4:15 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 25. He was 73. Mr. O'Brien was the son of the late Thomas J. and Ollie Hunsaker O'Brien, who came from Vashti in 1891, as one of the families that formed a settlement in the vast rangeland of the southeast Panhandle. He attended the schools in that area.
During most of his adult life, Mr. O'Brien farmed at Arlie, although for a few years he and his family resided in Oregon. He was a veteran of World War I and a long time member of the Church of Christ.
Funeral services for Mr. O'Brien were conducted at the Church of Christ in Dodson on Monday at 2 p.m., with Min. Claude Walkup of Gould, Okla. officiating. Burial was in the Dodson Cemetery under the direction of Coley Funeral Home. Pallbearers were nephews:
Dale Hunt, Robert Hunt, Edwin Bonneau, Leland Bonneau, Edel Bonneau and Bob Garton.
Surviving Mr. O'Brien are his wife, who was the former Miss Belle Hunt, and three daughters: Mrs. O. J. Turner of Dallas, Mrs. Archie Trapp of Abilene and Mrs. Mary Derrick of Arlie. Other survivors are four sisters and a brother: Miss Ellie O'Brien and Mrs. Dewey Pigg of Wichita Falls; Mrs. Lawrence Stambough of Stamford, Mrs. Mollie Kendall of Kileen, and Bob O'Brien of Wichita Falls. There are six grandchildren.
