Jesse Jerome James, 79, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 9:01 pm April 18, 2022 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. He was born December 6, 1942 in Alhambra, California to the late Homer and Edith (Pritchard) Walker. Jesse married Peggy (Harden) James on May 11, 1963 in Pasadena, California. In addition to his loving wife of nearly sixty years, Jesse is survived by his children, Bart James and wife, Wendy of Bluford, Illinois, Kim Fernberg and husband, Jeff of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Madison, Andrew, Alexandria, Kaden, Dustin, Jacob, Emily, Ashton, Magic; great-grandchildren, Aislinn, Aleah, Atlyss, Nevaeh, Skylnn; sister, Carol Ann Shillingburg and husband, Sam of Mount Vernon, Illinois; nephews, Michael, David, and Wesley; niece, Becky; great-nephews, Brendan, Eric, Gabe; and great-nieces, Sara and Aubrey. Jesse proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He enjoyed fishing and yard work. Above all, he loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jesse was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed. A Visitation will be held Friday, April 22, 2022 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Memorial Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Reverend Jimmy Duncan officiating. Inurnment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois at a later date.
