Howard Hayes Amick was born on April 6, 1915 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, the son of Columbus Alexander Amick (1876–1944) and Willie Ella (Murphy) Amick (1893–1954).

He attended Central High School, and he was married in 1936 as the 1st husband of Mabel Louise Talley (1916–2004), and she was the daughter of Benjamin "Harrison" Talley (1893–1969) and his 1st wife Ethel "Carlyne" (Brown) Talley (1898–1922).

An insurance agent for over 25 years, he joined Kentucky Central Insurance Company and in 1962 was named outstanding Nashville salesman for Liberty National Life Insurance Company.

A member of Haywood Hills Baptist Church and living at 1716 Southwind Road in Nashville, Howard was 53 years old and married when he had a heart attack and died at Mid-State Baptist Hospital on December 27, 1968.

Survivors included his widow Mabel Louise (Talley) Amick, a son, brothers Richard Dean Amick, Herbert Voyd "Herb" Amick and William Columbus "Bill" Amick of Nashville, sisters Mrs Mabel Shreve of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Mrs Norma Angell at Nashville and two grandchildren.

Funereal Services were held on on December 29th at Cosmopolitan Funeral Home, and burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Nashville.
