Elizabeth Bowles came from Ohio to Mashall County with her parents Alexander and Margaret Orr Bowles at the age of eight in a covered wagon. She married Lot Mills, November 14, 1865 in Marshall County, in the old stone church which stood two miles south of where the present Iowa River Church now stands. She had eleven children. She died at the Iowa Soldiers Home in Marshalltown.
