William John Murphy, 84, of Holliday, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2022.
The family will receive friends between 6 and 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2022 at First United Methodist Church in Holliday with Pastor Paul Meyenberg, officiating. Interment will follow at Holliday Cemetery under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls.
A son of the late William Anthony Murphy and Dorothy Lundgren Murphy, William was born on December 17, 1937 in Danvers, Massachusetts. He married the love of his life, Audrey Hersey on December 22, 1956. William served our country proudly in the United States Air Force, retiring with 22 years of service in June of 1976. After retiring from the U.S.A.F., William went on to work the next 20 years at SAFB as an Aircraft Mechanic, retiring again in 1996.
William was a member of First United Methodist Church in Holliday, and served many years as a Methodist Lay Speaker. He was a talented wood carver, and was a member of the Wichita Falls Woodcarving Club. William loved listening to Roy Orbison, eating R.T.'s peach cobbler, enjoyed going to see his friends at the Holliday Senior Center, spending time with his family, and most of all, he loved driving.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Audrey Murphy; two sons, William Murphy Jr., and Thomas Murphy; three grandchildren, Jacob, Kyle, and Adam; and his sister, Carol January.
He is survived by his daughter, Ann Marie Park and husband Brian; his son, Kevin Murphy and Andrea; his sister, Joyce Prunier; his grandchildren, Justin, Jared, Eric, Bobby, Lindsey, Cameron, Kendel, Devon, Erin, Ashley, Shane, Becca, and Hannah; nineteen great-grandchildren and one on the way; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff and doctors at Royal Estates for all their love and care given to William.
Serving as Pallbearers will be William's grandsons, and his dear friends, Corky Scarbrough and Jim Morgan serving as Honorary Pallbearers.
