October 24, 1787: "the Constable [took] our Son Samme off to Gaol for Refusing [to] p[ay] his tax..."

August 11, 1791: "Our Son Samuel Having been about a week past very Ill of a fever & purging & sickness at stomach"

September 25, 1791: "Samme lies yet very Ill"

September 27 to 30, 1791:
"I came home & found my poor Son Growing worse as to the Disorder..." "his Disorder the fever seemd to Return with Greater violence (Not withstanding all that the Doctor or we Could do) which Deprived him much of his senseis yet he was Senseible in part at times would caul his Friends & Neighbours by their Names that came to see him & showd very Loveing and affectionate to all of us once he said to me oh Father *[left marginal note *"his arms around my neck"] how I Love thee I Love thee I think I Love thee..." "his fever still seemd to Rage & weaken him very fast yet it apeard he had some right sense & knowled of things, till near the Last moments he would take Drink &C. he apeard to be Exceedingly Afflicted & in great Distress both of body & mind: till the 30 of the 9th mo About 5 o Clock in the Morning he Departed this Life & I hope Suffered his Last: 1791"

"2nd of the 10 mo was first Day the people met here at the 9th hour to the Burial of our Dear Son Samuel..." "our Relations on Seventh Day night up from the Yearly meeting went with us to the Burial A very Large Concours of People there was..." "a considerable number of our Relations after Dinner we had a seting..." "amongst the youth a number of which were present & he Likewise Divers times made mention of our Dear Deceased Son Samme & of his great Troubles & Afflictions he had passd through..."
