Barbara (Brockel) Huber, 83, passed away on Easter Sunday, Apr 17, 2022, of natural causes, at the Rapid City Hospice House in Rapid City, SD. She was born in Herreid, SD, on Sept 3, 1938, to Theodore Brockel and Alvina (Quenzer) Brockel. Barb was the youngest of four children. Barb was preceded in death by her husband: August Huber; her parents; and 3 brothers: Melvin Brockel, Delaine Brockel, and Cletus Brockel. She attended county school. After school, she went to college to become a teacher. She taught country school for many years. She moved to Eureka, SD, with her family. Then she met her love of her life, August Huber and they married on Jun 7, 1959. They moved to New Rockford, ND, where she babysat. When her children were all in school, she started working at the school in the kitchen. She lived there until 1974, when the family moved to Salem, SD. There August and Barb bought the Coast to Coast store. After selling in 1980, she worked at the nursing home as a cook and then a supervisor. She worked there until she retired in 2013. Her hobbies were bowling, golf, cooking, baking, playing Christian songs on her piano, cross stitching, quilting and lots of crafts. She was a member of Sun Prairie Baptist Church in rural Salem, which was always the center of her life. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Barb was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved her holidays with family. Easter was her very favorite time of the year. She loved putting puzzles together and when the family was together, she loved playing games. Barb is survived by her son: Donald Huber, Gillette WY; son: Bruce Huber (Marin) of Sioux Falls, SD; daughter: Cyndi Weber of Billings. MT; grandchildren whom she adored: Daniel Huber, Bailey (Huber) Kemerling, Jon Erik Huber, Camryn Huber, Allison Huber, Amber (Weber) Wurdeman, Dustin Weber, Chelsey (Weber) Shaffer; and 11 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Apr 24, 2022, from 5 – 7pm, at Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem. Funeral services will begin at 11am, Mon, Apr 25, 2022, at Sun Prairie Baptist Church in rural Salem with burial in the church cemetery. Arrangements were with the Kinzley Funeral Home, Salem, SD.
