Beloved father, grandfather, uncle and loyal friend, Albert Marshall Thompson, passed away at 97 years old, at his home in Jackson, CA on November 25, 2016. He was born May 9, 1919 in Berkeley, CA.

He married his wife of 68 years, Olive Maxwell on June 8, 1942. Three months later he entered WWII in the U.S. Army. He spent the next four years at Aberdeen Providing Grounds teaching weaponry, in North Africa as an MP transporting German prisoners and finally in the Pacific Theatre in New Guinea. He was always very proud of his military service.

After the war they attended and graduated from UC Davis. Both he and his wife attained degrees in etymology and ornamental horticulture. They settled at the family home in Jackson and started the Gordon Hill Nursery and later expanded to include a flower shop. He and Olive were both from Pioneer Amador County families. Albert's grandfather, T.E. Thompson was a mining engineer who constructed many mines in the Sutter Creek area. Olive was a descendent of Jackson's Gordon and Hinkley families.

Albert was a well-known Mother Lode watercolor artist. His work has been accepted and won prizes at many shows. He was a member of W.A.S.H, a Senior Member of N.C.A. and Past President of the Amador County Artists Association. He taught watercolor classes locally and those with Elder Hostel and at Yosemite Park. He has been represented by galleries all over the country including Maui, Hawaii and locally in Sutter Creek and Pine Crest.

Many knew him as an antique dealer with his wife, Thompson Antiques in Jackson and at Creekside Shops in Sutter Creek.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Olive, his parents, Arthur and Nella Thompson; brothers, Leslie, Harry Leroy, Edward and Bill Thompson; sister, Betty Duncan and his grandson, David Brace.

He is survived by his sons, Dennis (Kelly), Michael (Carol) and Rick (Martha) Thompson; daughter Patricia (David) Stikeleather; his great friend, Frank (Mary Ann) Tortorich; grandchildren, Lisa (Warren) Clawson, Juliana Ritter, Bill Thompson, Laura Thompson, Christina Brace, Tory (Rebecca) Bruno, and seven great grandchildren, Hannah, Max, Arthur, Brianna, Christopher, Cody, Nolan; his large and extended family and dear friends.

A special thanks to Interim Health Care, Dr. Siegal and the Mather VA Hospital.
