He entered the military in February of 1971 at the age of 19, serving in the ARMY for three years before being honorably discharged in February of 1974.
Stanley relocated from Missouri to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he eventually met the love of his life, Deborah Martin, in 1978. Stanley resided in Colorado Springs with Deborah until 1990, when he, Deborah, and their two young children moved to Denver, Colorado. He spent most of his adult life in Denver with Deborah, where they set roots, worked hard, and raised their young kids.
Stanley was affectionately referred to as "Stan", "Big Stan", or "King", by many of his relatives and friends. Stan was greatly respected, admired, and loved by many. His smile and laughter were contagious, but mostly, his huge heart, loving spirit, and empathetic soul, stole the hearts of anyone who ever had the pleasure to meet and know him.
Stan was an avid sports fan, enjoying many weekends watching football and basketball games on television. He was very outgoing and social, and enjoyed spending time at the barber shop, engaging in barber shop talk with the regulars. He also enjoyed playing pool, gambling, watching movies at home with his wife, going to sporting events with his son, father/daughter dates with his daughter, and traveling. He often traveled back to Saint Louis to visit friends and family.
Stan was a family man. Besides his faith, family was most important to him. He was most joyous during the holidays, when he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
Stan is survived by his wife of 44 years, his daughter, his son, his grandchildren, sisters, and brothers, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by both his mother and father, and two brothers, Wesley and Michael McCowan.
