Mary graduated from St. Stephen's High School of Port Carbon in 1945. She served as a telegrapher's clerk for the Reading Railroad for many years. She also worked for the Shipping and Traffic Department at Alcoa of Cressona, retiring in 1990. Late in life Mary worked in the Governor Mifflin Junior High School Cafeteria.
Above all her joys in life, Mary most cherished her family. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and going on country drives. She held a deep reverence for birds and flowers and knew a great deal about both. Her kind nature inspired her to participate in many volunteering ventures through her church, St. John Baptist de la Salle Roman Catholic Church of Shillington. Mary also volunteered through hospice to console patients and families.
Mary's memory will be treasured by her children, Jim D. Howell, husband of Lynn, of Shady Side, MD, and Patty A. Snyder, wife of John, of Mechanicsburg; her 10 grandchildren; her 15 great-grandchildren; and her two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Mary was predeceased by her son, David T. Howell, and her siblings, Robert Heisler, George Heisler, and Margaret White.
Her family is deeply grateful to the dedicated staff of Homeland Hospice and The Woods at Cedar Run for the comfort and care they provided to Mary as she passed.
