He married Kathy Rupe in 1974. To this union two children were born, Jason and Chris. They later divorced. He later married Debbie Day on March 14, 1998.
Steve worked as the Marshall of the town of Eldon Iowa and later was a Wapello County Deputy Sherrif. He was also a volunteer fire fighter with the Wapello County Rural Volunteer Fire Department in the 70's and 80's. He learned the trade of servicing and calibrating filling station equipment while working with Ralph Van Zante of Pella which later became Ottumwa Petroleum Service. He later worked for Ports Petroleum as an area maintenance manager for the upper Midwest region until his retirement in the mid 2000's. Needing to stay busy, he later worked at South Hy-Vee in Ottumwa.
He enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball, and being a scout leader for Boy's Scouts in his younger years. He also enjoyed woodworking, traveling, fishing, camping and making jewelry. Steve, Debbie, and their beloved cat, Sasha traveled the country, checking off all of Steve's bucket list destinations. These will be memories always cherished.
Steve is survived by his wife, Debbie Day; children, Jason Day, Chris (Tomi Jo) Day, Jessica (Nathan) Hutchison; grandchildren, Derek Day, Kali Day, Ashton Day, Ella Day, Aniston Glandon, Makenna Day, Mattea Day, Aundrea McMullen, Todd (Katy) Christo, Madyson Eskew, Quinten Eskew, Noah Hamm, Drake Hamm, and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Olive Day, and sisters, Rosalie, Margaret, and Patricia.
Graveside Services will be held on April 22, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa with Ross Mutrex from the Boonesboro Christian Church in Boonesboro, Mo officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. Memorials may be directed to Central Missouri Honor Flight, 1400 Forum Blvd., Columbia, MO 65203.
