Born in Troy he is the son of the late John and Eleanor (Mahar) Marshall.
John was a graduate of Catholic Central High School Class of 1968 and would then go onto earn his Bachelor's Degree in History from The University at Albany.
He proudly served our country in The United States Army after being drafted and was honorably discharged in 1972.
John was an avid musician and enjoyed playing the guitar, piano and writing music. His children will always remember the sing-a-longs with him and sharing his love for his era's music with them. He also loved the outdoors, whether it was gardening his roses or fishing at his grandfather's camp on Lake Champlain as a child or camping with his family at Roger's Rock on Lake George.
John was the Director of Vanderhyden Hall and Joseph's house and later as a peace officer at Saratoga Race Course. Through John's work at Saratoga he became great friends with many in the horse racing industry, keeping in contact with them right until the end.
John was a devout Catholic and was dedicated to reciting the Rosary every day. The most important thing in life to John was his family especially his beloved grandchildren.
John is survived by his children, Davelyn (Giuseppe "Joe") Milanese, Jack (Morgan Rouche) Marshall, Bridget (The late Howard) Warrington, Megan (Victor) Cline and Kevin (Cristin Stickles) Marshall; his grandchildren, Marisa Milanese, Daniella Milanese, Tara Milanese, Joseph Milanese, Alyssa French, Caleb Cline, Caden Marshall and Ryder Marshall; his siblings, Eleanor Manning, Nancy Volks, Cathy Biggs, Mary Ellen Armstrong, Mark Marshall and Joann Theophel; and his ex-wife, Maryanne Ackiss.
John was predeceased by his life-long best friend, John McCallen.
Burial will follow with full military honors at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
