John David was preceded in death by his brother, Glen Thomas Benson , his beloved son, Elijah Adam Benson, and his loving parents, Ralph Munger

John David is survived by his daughter, Sarah Elaine Benson, his brother Ralph Frederick "Rick" Benson, and his long-time guardian angel Edie Poland.
John David was a loving father and loyal husband who stayed stoically strong despite the many extreme tribulations he was forced to endure in his life.
Those who knew and loved John David will always remember his many talents and passions. He had a brilliant mind and loved working with his hands. Besides being an accomplished dentist, John David was a talented mechanic who at one time owned and maintained classic boats, motorcycles, and cars.
No tribute to John David would be complete without remembering his love for the blues. John David's knowledge and love of American blues was deep and soulful. He played Mississippi Delta blues over the sound system in his dental office. His band the Cheap Shots was a passion for him. In later years, when his eyes failed him, and he could no longer see the frets on his treasured guitars, John David became an expert harmonicist. His idol Little Walter would have been honored to play with him.
