Phillip L. Whitlow, 83, of Spencer passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at his home with his family by his side.

He was born on September 14, 1937 in Shelbyville, Indiana the son of Oscar and Mildred (Buchanan) Whitlow. Phillip was a 1955 graduate of Bloomington High School. Out of high school he joined the U.S. Army National Guard, and then he joined the U.S. Marine Corp serving during the Vietnam War.

Phillip was a self-employed photographer for several years. He was the photographer for the Indianapolis 500 yearbook for over 25 years, and then a photographer for the Herald Times Newspaper in Bloomington for 20 years before his retirement in 1997.

Phillip was a member of the American Legion Post #18 in Bloomington, the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), the Davis Creek Indian War Reenactment Corp. He enjoyed photography, woodworking and carpentry, air shows, and flying model airplanes.

He was an adventurer who loved traveling visiting all fifty states, riding his motorcycle and horseback trail-riding. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Mildred; his brother, Robert Whitlow; and sister, Nancy Davidson; half-brother, Ervin and half-sister, Mildred (Whitlow) Ridlen.

No services are scheduled at this time. Cremation Rites have been accorded.
